libreoffice gets deleted with pkg upgrade

I have been waiting for the packages for 13.5-RELEASE to settle, with editors/libreoffice not being available for several weeks

Sadly, things are getting worse, with editors/iridium now disappearing:

Experience tells me that time will cure this problem, so this is just a warning that patience is required...
 
It is not because I typed editors instead of www. Finger trouble. My error.

The fact remains that the libreoffice package has been absent for weeks, and the iridium browser has joined the list of absentees.

The FreshPorts details for www/iridium says:

To add the package, run one of these commands:
  • pkg install www/iridium
  • pkg install iridium-browser
NOTE: If this package has multiple flavors (see below), then use one of them instead of the name specified above.

PKGNAME: iridium-browser​

And iridium is not available:

According to freshport www/iridium and editors/libreoffice are not available for 13.5 latest only, probably a build issue as it happens sometimes.
Like you said patience should solve this.
I personally moved from 13.5 to 14.2 because of little quirks like you experience currently, I may be wrong on that but I have the impression that the last release is a better class citizen than the one called "legacy". For a server usage it's fine but for desktop it can be a bit challenging sometimes because things move slower.

It's because java/openjdk17 has been failing to build for some time now. So everything that depends on it has gone missing.

Fallout list - FreeBSD pkg-fallout

It's been failing on 13 and 14, so both versions are equally impacted. Also across various architectures, i386, amd64, arm64.
 
Do we have a "If pkgs are disappearing, please check the ports fallout data" thread pinned anywhere
If not, should we have one? It may help people understand "why" they are missing.
 
It would be better to provide database of ports on build per-arch && per-branch and pkg to specify it. And if any pkg is missing but in the database for the arch/branch, simply ignore as if there's no updates for the ports.

There's already data.pkg, meta and packagesite.pkg provided. So add one for it would be helpful.
 
With Latest, I've already had a similar situation with HPLIP and Libreoffice.
Now my command is always
pkg upg -n
.
If it's necessary to remove a package, because it's not yet in Latest,

pkg lock name

Understood, but having a pinned thread with some simple instructions on how to search, how to understand the data can make it easier for a user to "self help".
Or maybe this would be an appropriate use of AI?
 
Looks like something got fixed, last build for latest on 14.2 was started Tue, 09 Sep 2025 01:01:51 GMT and took 29+ hours to complete. It shows a success for LibreOffice. Those builds may not have been synced to the package mirrors yet, but that's probably happening right now. Maybe give it another day and try again tomorrow.

Strange error to have. But then the Java build process is a study of interesting treatment of object files, shared libs and image files.

Even stranger that it is almost certainly a system call failing on an object file here.

Thread 'Package for "XYZ" doesn't exist/cannot be found'

So, this question pops up quite regularly. Here are some things you can check:

  • Does the port still exist?
    Packages are built from ports, so check an up to date ports tree, cgit ports, or Freshports. Ports do get deprecated (older, EoL, versions for example). Or it might be broken beyond repair. No port, no package, it's that simple.
  • Port got renamed.
    Doesn't happen very often but does happen. The MOVED file in the ports tree will tell you what the new name is.
  • Port exists but package(s) for it are missing.
    Sometimes ports, or one or more of its...
