Kodi 21 just hit the quarterly branch today

Kodi is an award-winning free and open source (GPL) software media player and entertainment hub that can be installed on Linux, OSX, Windows, iOS, tvOS and Android. It is designed around a "10-foot user interface" for use with televisions and remote controls.
Users can play and view most videos, music, podcasts, games and other digital media files from local and network storage media and the internet.

Kodi was originally called XBMC

ive been using Kodi since it was called XBMC

Kodi has a config file called playercorefactory.xml
which is used to configure external video players

However the playercorefactory.xml file can also be used with external scripts to record from Kodi

You can also use the sources.xml to add content from archive.org
like the early series of The Bill ( see source.xml link below )
