Solved kernel panic with nvidia driver on stable

Hi, I just upgrade to FreeBSD 11.0-stable following the docs. After I upgraded I ran pkg upgrade -y and the nvidia driver updated.

I then ran startx and I got a kernel panic. I'm currently using the vesa driver and that seems to work fine.

Running pkg remove nvidia-driver and installing from ports instead seems to fix the issue.

The official packages are built against 11.0-RELEASE, that normally works fine for 11-STABLE but kernel modules usually need to be build specifically for the exact kernel version you have.
