Hi!

Fresh installed 7.1. The same settings which I had on 7.0 except that I have on /usr and/var gjournal.
Installation of KDE was okay but there are some problem:

1. KMail need long time to start: 15. 20 seconds. Than looks that it doesn't open and after 3, 5 seconds it start. Never had on FreeBSD 7.0

2.
When I try to open KDE menu it needed few seconds to open. When moving mouse above (in the menu) different groups (Graphics Multimedia...it is not important which one) it needed time again that menus expanded.
A problem with the menu openings are also on the applications (Konqueror, KMail,,,)

What I did change is just defaultserverargs="-nolisten tcp"

Thanks in advance.

If I started KMail from konsole:

KDE 3.5.10-slow-save

I don't know what was a problem but after rebuilt of kdebase3 it works very good.

Cool. Glad you got it sorted out. I'm quite happy with KDE 3.5.10 on FreeBSD 7.1, it runs well.

Again me...
Finally I am satisfied with KDE 3.5.10 and it works as before but problem is with KMail still. Opening time is sometimes 5 sec. than 20 than less...menus open sometimes slowly...
I rebuilt kdepim but it is the same.

I have the same problem with kmail and some other KDE3 apps. Moreoever, building a port in the background renders the desktop almost unusable. I thought at first it was the ULE scheduler but switching back to 4BSD it's still the same. With no initial load I can see a load spike when I start KMail.

I've been using KDE on FreeBSD for several years now, and have never seen this before.

I had on FreeBSD 7.0 ULE scheduler and KDE 3.5.10 and I never had the same problem. I rebuilt kdepim3, kdelibs3, qt33...and is the same.

I recompile qt33 with:
CUPS=off (default) "Enable CUPS support"
KDE_PATCHES=off (default) "Apply KDE patches"

and it looks that works much better. I think same as before.

Just looks...it is not better ):

Again me...
After new installation of FreeBSD I had problem with slow KDE 3.5.10 still. What is unusual for me is when I start computer, start KDE and KMail for example, it works very good. But if I closed KDE (logut), work in console and start KDE again and this repeat more times and special when I came back in the morning and start KDE, KMail need more than 20 seconds to open but before about 10. Opening of KDE menus which I described before are slow also. But Gimp, ngraph, OO, Konqueror, Opera are opening normal.

I ran "top" when I started KMail (few minutes ago) and it shows:

last pid: 5861; load averages: 0.37, 0.11, 0.10 up 1+00:58:57 16:29:01

and vmstat -i shows:

Network card rl0 is inactive (it is not connected to nowhere).
I didn't try 4BSD scheduler yet.

Thanks.
