Issues with laptop keyboard

Hi

Facing issues with my laptop keyboard, when i press alphabet keys either it does not type anything or types the alphabet several times.

Function keys [shift, enter etc.] and numeral keys types normally.

How to check whether it is a software issue?

Typed this message through a virtual keyboard.

Thanks

Nothing I've heard of on any Thinkpad. Has this just started to happen? Was it ok before? Did this coincide with any other changes, hardware or software?
Started from last 3 days. No hardware or software change in meanwhile!

If no other symptoms, I would first try cleaning the keyboard - preferably out of the laptop but anyway with power off and battery disconnected - with 100% isopropyl alcohol (for coffee or anything sticky) and then a good blasting from a can of compressed air (for any grit or metal shavings etc).

If you don't have the full service manual, manualslib has it here.

Try to type something in BIOS setup.
It should be a field like user password or admin password.
Be careful! Do not set up any passwords with the broken keyboard. Just type something, count * for every keypress,
and finally exit BIOS setup without saving anything.
Try to load EFI shell, if supported by laptop and try to type something.

1) broken keyboard. You need to replace the keyboard.
2) It was very rare issues like your but source of the issue was a failed battery of a laptop. I had the similar issues on Asus' laptops with the failed batteries.
3) Coins in a SD-card slot )

p.s.
worked as a service technician, replaced 100+ laptop's keyboard after different causes of failure.

video players (VHS) in homes with (small) kids usually had Lego bricks and other toys in them, and also partly eaten sandwiches. :-)
