I have a headless home server running at home, and occasionally I want to connect a display to it via HDMI. However, when I plug in the HDMI cable while the server is already running, I don't get any signal on the monitor.
If I restart the server with the HDMI cable already connected, the display works fine — even If I disconnect the cable and connect back after a few seconds. I'm only using the console (no GUI or video drivers installed).
What could be causing this issue?
