releng/13.0
) and can be used with freebsd-update
. -STABLE comes from a different branch (stable/13
) and has to be built from source for updating. This branch is then used to prepare the next minor release. It just refers to the ABI, which doesn't change inside one "stable" branch. In the FreeBSD context, think of "STABLE" as in the English word "stable" meaning "a building full of horses": It's wild![]()
Aye. I generally switch quite quickly to the next stable branch if/when it's created. But yeah, especially the first couple of weeks there are usually still some issues to work out. But I've been running one or two -STABLE machines since 3.0 so I know what I'm getting into.According to experience, there’s a flood of commits to the stable branch shortly after a release has been published.
Good advice! This holds also to OpenZFS. It works with OpenZFS, but upgrading the pool makes it unbootable on 12.2.If you're trying out 13.0 (BETA, RC or the -RELEASE) don't upgrade your pools if you use ZFS. Wait until you're absolutely sure you don't need to revert back to 12.2 (or 11.x).
Good question, the only thing i know that upgrading from RC2 to RELEASE should work without problems (SirDice told me).
Don't know about BETA3.
I wait two more weeks and do a clean install of 13.0-RELEASE.
