Installing FreeBSD on a Z83 Mini PC

Have managed to run FreeBSD on a Z83 Mini PC using an external disk, but I was wondering if it possible to actually install it on the device... Has anyone tried/succeeded?

Reading through this guide I'm not entirely sure if someone actually installed Linux on one of these things or just used it to boot from an external drive, but if they did manage to install it, presumably FreeBSD could also be installed...
 
A possible problem might be if the eMMC / eMMC controller isn't supported by FreeBSD. Somebody with one of these needs to boot FreeBSD on it and check...

I have one of these and can boot an external drive from it, but I'd like to be able to install FreeBSD on the thing itself.

Would the output from dmesg be of any use?
 
Yes, it might tell us if the eMMC is supported. Relevant parts of# pciconf -lv output might also be helpful.

OK, just one eMMC (mmcsd0), nothing for mmc1. You should try gpart show -p mmcsd0 to chek that gpart can read it (it should).

Revisiting an old thread after stumbling on my old Z83 Mini PC, I wondered if anything had changed with the anouncement of 14.0-R...

Do I simply need to add set hint.ppc.0.disabled="1" to /boot/device.hints to get the thing booting?

Yes and 13.2 is the same. I have a few of these systems X5-z8350 and X5-z8300 and both boot 13.2 Release with the hint set.

set hint.ppc.0.disabled="1" is the command to run at the loader prompt.
set <That is the loader trigger command.

For /boot/device.hints you do not add 'set'
hint.ppc.0.disabled="1"

Just look at the other entries. There are no set commands here.
 
I have two beelink machines that are emmc the others are dell 3040 thin clients and I run them on USB storage. I have FreeBSD 13.2 installed.
