I wonder what makes my old Dell M4700 work with FreeBSD?

I don't like M$OS because it doesn't like my laptop.
I don't like Linux because it doesn't like my laptop.
I like FreeBSD because it likes my laptop and its hardware components:
3D accelerated video works with amdgpu driver
Wireless networking works
USB sound works with Logitech soundbar
Wireless mouse works with USB dongle
Built in camera works automagically

Is it me or FreeBSD automagic that keep my old M4700 alive and well? I've been sailing through the updates and upgrades from 13.2 OS version without issues.

How do you rate your general experience with FreeBSD?

There is always a technical explanation.

You laptop was designed for Windows, so the variable there is you. Perhaps you're expecting an older device to perform well with Windows 10? Or perhaps you need to hunt down some specific drivers.

Linux depends on the distribution and again on your level of experience with it.

I was under the impression this was an offtopic thread, rather than the posing of a technical problem?

Point being - there's no automagic involved. The laptop was designed for Windows and Linux is a big variable. FreeBSD is my number one choice, but when it comes to laptops, not always the best. So it's probably more down to some random circumstances, that FreeBSD "just worked", and others apparently did not, in this case.
