I have also been struggling with getting this printer to work. It's a good duplex printer! It is only today that it began working after removing hplip installed with the package manager and then installing both print/hplip and print/hplip-plugin from ports. I have the printer installed as a network printer using cups. This is on FreeBSD 13.0-RELEASE-p7. There does not seem to be a package for hplip-plugin installable with pkg.
