I bet I'm not the only one once sweared "the next one who gives me a free cable will be shot", because one is drowning in jumbles of cables.
Here is my simple solution:
keep both ends together, to see which plugs it matches, then a small cable tie
(rubber bands would also do, but they become brittle after a couple of years.)
