How's a Windows app getting CPU info? (Wine too)

I have a i5-8400H with Hyperthreading disabled in BIOS; OS and lscpu report 4 cores, dmesg reports 4, and htop/GUI task managers have 4 cores.

World of Warcraft reports differently though in cpu.log (reports the same native Win10 and Wine Linux/FreeBSD):
Code:
5/30 21:22:57.660 vendor: 1
5/30 21:22:57.660 features: 00000057
5/30 21:22:57.660 sockets: 1
5/30 21:22:57.660 cores: 8
5/30 21:22:57.660 processors: 4
5/30 21:22:57.660 vendor id string= GenuineIntel
5/30 21:22:57.660 standard (22): 1b=02100800 1d=bfebfbff 4a=1C004121
5/30 21:22:57.660 extended (8): 1c=00000121 1d=2c100000 8c=00000000
5/30 21:22:57.660 processor brand string= Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8400H CPU @ 2.50GHz

How's it getting cores: 8?
