Solved How to communicate between two network cards of a firewall?

Hello everyone,

Two interfaces of a firewall are connected to two networks. Do the two interfaces require additional configuration to communicate with each other?

Thanks.

You mean to pass packets between them from one network to the other? To use the FreeBSD device as a router?

The answer to that would be "yes". You have to set up your firewall and routing tables to allow data to pass.

Yes, I also think that the route should be set, but I can't find an example. Is this the usual practice?

In order to route traffic between two (or more) interfaces you will need to set gateway_enable="YES" for IPv4 and ipv6_gateway_enable="YES" for IPv6. A firewall has nothing to do with this.
