I'm running FreeBSD 9.0-RELEASE and using gnome2. I tried to run the Sofware Update tool from the System menu, but it just reports that authorization fails without ever asking for authorization. How can I get Software Update to ask for a password? Thanks for any help.
Thanks to both of you. I already have ports-mgmt/gnome-packagekit installed, so that doesn't seem to be the problem in my case. Also, I'm reasonably familiar with the usual methods for updating my system - at least familiar enough to typically get the job done on my own when needed. The Software Update tool seems (to me), like a very convenient way to keep my system up to date, and since FreeBSD 9.0-RELEASE is the first time I've seen the tool in any version going back to FreeBSD 6.0, my expectation is that it is there because it's supported and works. Is that not the case?
