Have [cmd] tag not cause a new line?

If I press the 3-stacked dots ⋮ and then >_ for Command on selected text, it'll throw that selected text on a new line with the tags.

Basically trying to CMD the word
text
results in this without manually moving things back to one line.

I'd like for it to just put the CMD tags around the text without moving the location of the text.

Does anyone else have this issue, in recent days? Examples: when I select text then use the editing toolbar to apply CMD markup, the markup no longer appears alongside the selection (instead, it's above and below) when I select text then paste plain text that does not begin with a line break...

I used to be fastidious with things such as formatting, since things became peculiar I frequently don't attempt to battle with the ones that are affected.
