gnome-terminal

Hello !

Since upgrade of gnome to 2.26 with portupgrade, gnome-terminal says : Failed to contact the GConf daemon; exiting.
I was trying portupgrade -rRf gnome without any success.
dbus is enable in rc.conf.
hald is disable in rc.conf but enable it does not resolve the problem.
ps aux | grep gconf return 57496 0.0 0.2 21916 4732 ?? S 8:51AM 0:02.56 /usr/local/libexec/gconfd-2, so gconfd is available.

Any suggestion ?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Fred

I have read Gnome's FAQ to update gnome, without any success, gnome-terminal said that it can't connect to gconfd.

Any suggestion ?

Use xterm instead :pP

It is faster than gnome-terminal by factors, has a proper VT emulation, can display blinking text, and handles VT scrolling regions much better than gnome-terminal does. And with properly set up X11 resources, it can be made to look quite nice. Despite this, xterm has been around for so long, that the statistical probability of bugs in it should be quite low compared to that of gnome-terminal :)

The solution to "program <x> isn't working" is rarely "program <y> is better".

You do realize, that this was not meant without a certain amount of humor involved, now do you?
