FreeBSD for music production

Good video as introduction to sound(4).

Watching this video several days ago I thought about posting a question here that got asked in the video, regarding Ethernet audio interfaces. This domain is quite new to me, in the context of home/small studios, and I have seen more and more gear coming out with Ethernet support. However there are numerous standards spread through the layers. For sound4bsd layer 1/2 could be applicable because the upper ones can be realized from userspace fully.

Are there music people here that would be interested in such a support?

The "open standards" could be implemented first and then proprietary interfaces. Personally I would start with Behringer "ULTRANET" due to accessibility and pricing of that manufacturer. However I would not engage in developing something nobody wants to use.

Thoughts?

Well, just like others : I love my FreeBSD (when the NVIDIA driver doesn't break everything), but not on this purpose.
I'm using Cubase on Windows 11, but the main problem is my big VST library. Most are running Kontakt, but I'm also running Roland Cloud stuff. And my orchestral libraries can use 30+ Gb of RAM so not reliable in a VM.
Still stuck on W11 for this, even for my midi expanders 🥺
