fcitx5+rime not working on Freebsd 14.3 as at 20250701

I have installed FreeBSD from 13.x to 14.2 on multiple machines (laptop and desktop , intel integrated cpu/gpu, amd discrete display card, nvidia discrete display card, and hybrid display mode ). But I have to say , the 14.3 version is hard and slow to install and use.

I only use KDE and my input method combination is fcitx5 and rime wubi. It goes all right until I met 14.3. I could install fcitx5, fcitxt5-rime, zh-rime-wubi/zh-rime-essay successfully but only the fcitx5+chineseaddon works on konsole or kate, while fcitx5+rime combination could not pop up any window (for example, the shortcut ctrl+` is supposed to call input schemes windows ) . And when I use firefox, even the fcitx5+chineseaddon/pinyin or wubi not works.

Any body have clues to solve it?

I solved input problem on firefox or gedit by using fcitx5+chineseaddon after I installed something like fcitx5-gtk2/3/4. But fcitx5+rime is not working on any editable interface. And I remembered the same problem existing on debian testing on around the beginning of 2025.

All I can say is that using ja-fcitx5-anthy is working for me with dwl in 14.3. I'm not familiar with Chinese input methods, but I have found that with Japanese, I usually have to export_GTK_IM_MODULE=zim, for it to work with GTK apps.

Finally, I found the problem. I installed plasma6-plasma other than kde and I guess the plasma6 package lacks some libraries compared to kde6. And when I re-install freebsd14.3 with kde, fcitx5 and fcitx5-rime, the old fcitx5+rime interface windows came back comfortingly.

Glad you got it fixed. You can mark the thread solved by going to edit your first post. You'll see a drop down box, with solved as one of the options.

I could not find the "edit" link or button on the first post or on the top of this page. I only found : report, quote and reply. But the #4 post that is my own reply has the edit link but I don't know what to do with it.

There should be an Edit link on the first post. It should be to the right of the report link. If you click it you should see at the top of the post something like Title with (no prefix) to the left of it. There should be an arrow under the no prefix part and if you click that arrow you should have an option to click Solved.

Possibly the Op still don't have enough number of posts to be allowed for the functionalities. Not sure how much, though.
