I've tried installing with 10.2, the USB stick version, and I'm trying to install it on my Fedora laptop.

Any tips?

 
We need a bit more information about the laptop. Does it use BIOS or UEFI booting? Which type of drive partitioning did you choose in the install? When do you see the error, exactly?

BIOS.

I didn't partition anything - it doesn't even boot into the installer. Sorry for the n00b question, but I have Linux partitions, do I have to format them beforehand and then install?

I go "Boot Multi-user". I tried various installation setups, with and without ACPI, and so on. Safe Mode as well. Nada.
 
What is the make and model of the laptop? Has the BIOS firmware been updated to the latest version released by the manufacturer of the laptop?

It's a Toshiba Satellite C650-177. And no, I haven't updated my BIOS. I will do that now.
