Other Doom emacs - init.el - tmux

I'm just finding my way around Doom emacs and looking through init.el I notice an option under :tools which has

;;tmux ; an API for interaction with tmux

Is anyone aware of what this offers when enabled?

So IIUC you can have a terminal with tmux and Emacs side by side, you could then issue commands from within Emacs and they'll be seen in your terminal.
