Other Doom emacs dired

This is probably a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway.

I'm just starting to find my way around Doom emacs and finding it difficult.

If I'm using dired in Doom emacs I can use H J K L to traverse a directory fairly easily, but I'm looking for the best way to get back to the directory from which I selected a file at the end of the path.
Apparently '^' is supposed to invoked up directory, but I don't think that is the command I'm looking for. I just want to quit the file I'm viewing/editing and go back directory list from which I came.

I've never used Doom Emacs, only vanilla Emacs, so Doom may do things differently. However, in vanilla Emacs, to quit an opened file and go back to the Dired buffer that it was opened from, simply close the file by killing the buffer that the file is open in via C-x k (kill-buffer). This will return to Dired if it was the previous buffer. If it wasn't the previous buffer you can switch back to the Dired buffer using C-x b (switch-buffer) and selecting it.

Yours is definitely not a dumb question, but the FreeBSD forums might not be the best way for you to get a quick answer. You can also turn to Emacs' integrated help or visit the Doom Emacs Discord server and ask there. I remember them being very welcoming and helpful (just like the FreeBSD forums, I might add).

Do you have a link?

According to Chatgpt:-

My conclusion: There is no reliable public Discord invite (now) for Doom Emacs

I'm slowly trying to get to grips with Doom Emacs and getting used to the H J K L way of traversing the filesytem but I have one installation where H and L don't work.

Where are these keybindings defined?

I couldn't figure it out so I copied the version which worked over the one which didn't and now can get used to finding my way around dired.
