Well the only reason I would think this would be needed is if you had a buggy CPU.
Microcode updates fix small problems with the CPU.
I have never heard of anyone recommending it, but I can't see where it would hurt.
From a security standpoint it might present a way for an intruder to mess with your CPU's microcode.
That said I use v5 Skylake Xeon and have never encountered that bug.
Sometimes the media hypes these edge case scenarios when in fact only a small group of people are affected.
