Solved CPU usage

Hi,

Recently, I have installed FreeBSD 10.0; It was hard to configure it, but I could finally do it properly (with the help of you guys).

Now I come up with something new... in these days I have noted that my notebook is making some excessive noise after some minutes I start to work.

I have looked after the processes currently running; verified the system load averages, but I couldn't identify anything abnormal.

It's strange, since back on Slackware my notebook works as expected: CPU fan increases when I'm doing some heavy processing. But on FreeBSD, it's like the system is doing a lot of heavy processing on background... I cound't identify the source of the problem (if it is).

My notebook is a Dell Vostro 3450.

wblock@, indeed it wasn't running. I've started it and now it seems the problem is solved (I'll do some more tests). However, I couldn't understand what you mean by 'enabled'. Is there another step beyond invoking powerd()?

SirDice, sorry. I mistyped the version number. I'm currently running FreeBSD 10.1.

Yes. Enable it in /etc/rc.conf:

powerd_enable="YES"

The defaults make interactive use kind of sluggish for me, so I add this:

powerd_flags="-a hadp -n hadp -p50"
