Solved common.c: unimplemented subshell type 1

After running numerous pkg add commands on pfSense 2.3.5 i386 I was finally able to install Midnight Commander, only to find that it would not run, giving the error

common.c: unimplemented subshell type 1
read (subshell_pty....):  No error: 0 (0)

Any ideas on what I need to do to get it working?

I'm assuming that this is a generic FreeBSD problem rather than something specific to pfSense... This version of pfSense is based on FreeBSD 10.3 i386.

This is a pfSense issue.

pfSense 2.3 is based on pkg for the base system and pfSense packages, so the pkg repository from pfSense is used and the standard FreeBSD package repository is not available. Installing packages from FreeBSD is technically possible, but not recommended due to potential dependency problems.

Sounds like PR 208391 is still a problem. You should ping misc/mc's maintainer.
