Solved (Best) X friendly terminal emulator to replace xterm?

Fresh FreeBSD 10.2 install, updated ports as of 24hrs ago with Xorg, Compton and xterm. Xterm is leaving me flat tho ...

Just wondering if there are better emulators than x11/xterm that are visually appealing, easily configurable but still lightweight? I'm running an older Atom CPU (D525) in a shared desktop setup so lightweight is the key.

There are also a number of XTerm tweaks: fonts, titlebar icon, colors etc. Some depend on the compilation options used for XTerm.
