baloo is a complete PITA

I'm trying to nuke the baloo indexer.
I'm happy to manage my own indexing, and baloo is a complete PITA.
I've included the following line in /etc/rc.conf
Code:
baloo_enable="NO"
The horrid baloo thing still launches when the host is started.

I've also tried balooctl disable but that just seems to turn the baloo off until the next restart, then we have the whole baloo battle all over again.
I can't pkg remove kf5-baloo because too many other vital packages will also disappear.
I will try adding a @reboot baloo disable to /etc/crontab
Please, is there a right-way to get rid of the dreaded baloo ?
Thanks in anticipation of any tips or clues.

Thanks for backfeed. I should have included that in original post. BTDT.
Unticked the "Enable File search" but the baloo still keeps indexing regardless.

gnome has a similar file indexer

which can stopped with systemctl by masking the service
not much use on Freebsd obviously which doesnt have systemd

Code:
systemctl --user mask tracker-extract-3.service

Code:
balooctl6 status
balooctl6 disable
balooctl6 purge
systemctl --user mask kde-baloo.service

not sure if balooctl6 can be disabled without systemd

I'll keep an eye on /home/user/.config/baloofilerc watch for any changes to
Code:
[Basic Settings]
Indexing-Enabled=false
