Alternative terminals to Terminator... 😭

Hello pals...

It looks like my favorite terminal emulator, Terminator, is going to be dismissed:

Code:
pkg info -D terminator
terminator-2.1.3_3:
Always:
===>   NOTICE:

This port is deprecated; you may wish to reconsider installing it:

Depends on expired devel/py-pytest-runner.

It is scheduled to be removed on or after 2025-03-31.

Can you suggest me any alternative terminal that has more or less the same Terminator's features? 🙏

Thanks! 🙏

That comes down to personal taste and preferences.

In my case I like my desktop to be lean and minimal, with quick startup times. I don't care for gui features like menus or graphical settings editors.
I also want my terminal to display fonts correctly to properly display nethack and cataclysm-dda in text mode.

Currently using alacritty, and more recently foot, as they're doing all that, always in combination with tmux to have detachablle session with multiple panes.

Konsole (x11/konsole) FTW!

Tmux is not exactly a terminal - but can be used in any terminal.

Well, Konsole is a KDE app, so it would have a ton of dependencies. Even with that, I have seen ppl on these Forums who nonetheless install standalone apps from KDE in spite of the heavy dependency luggage. I remember seeing someone who prefers XFCE - but really needed Okular for the features.

For basic terminals, I was quite happy with XFCE4 Terminal for many years.

But... I do some .... unholy things with unicode in my terminal, and while XFCE4-terminal was better than all the traditional terminals, it wasn't good enough.

Alacritty was my choice for a little while, but Kitty really handles fonts (and strange unicode glyphs) better. Alacritty also has some erratic behavior under x11 (but not under wayland).

Ghostty looks promising, but isn't good enough, yet.

So, Kitty (and tmux) is the current choice for font reasons, but xfce4-terminal is a pretty good option.

Since I use XFCE4 by default I already have installed XFCE4-Terminal, however it misses some useful features: for instance, Terminator can split the screen vertically or horizontally, tabbing, etc., through mouse (and keyboard) so I haven't had any reason to memorize anything. On the other hand terminal like Kitty comes with no mouse support so you have to memorize each command, the same with the Tmux I barely remember how to split the viewport...

i use alacritty and tmux (for the multi windows)
mouse works fine.
it is true that the keymap for tmux is a pain :)

With xfce-4.20 I use

I had the same issue. I found Konsole just as capable as Terminator.

Well, I like xterm and screen, that's my daily driver on freebsd running windowmaker. Konsole is very nice on kde plasma of course. And for fancy stufff... terminology from the enlightenment project. Hmm... I think I need to check out alacritty though.

Ha, maybe I won't bother then.. :)
Im never used Terminator, but wezterm has tabs, has ability to split terminal vertically, horizontally, keyboard shortcuts for navigation, nice customization ( but in lua ) has built in multiplexer ( cons is that you have to have wezterm on other pc to use it ). there are other stuff you can do ...

konsole can do all that and then some.

Konsole is a KDE application, I am pretty sure that is going to drag hald KDE if I try to install it... 🤔
