Adjusting screen output on TV

I'm using an old LG 32" LCD TV as a monitor and the output from my system cuts off around six letters off the left hand side of the screen.

Is there anything I can adjust in FreeBSD to make the screen output move slightly to the right.

I'm using a VGA cable rather than HDMI if that makes any difference

It does. VGA is an analog signal, HDMI is a digital signal. Adjust the TV to decrease the picture size and/or move it side to side. You often also have to play with "overscan" settings on the TV.
