Solved Accessing the hidden .zfs/snapshot problem

Greetings all,

I am at loss of what I am doing wrong. I have followed several posts on the forum, e.g., https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/restoring-zfs-snapshots.37731/, but cannot make it work.

# zfs list -t snapshot

Name                        USED    AVAIL    REFER    MOUNTPOINT
storage/visual/backup@2020    188G    -        188G    -

# ls /storage/visual/.zfs/snapshot/2020

No such file or directory

Any help would be appreciated.

What happens if you drop "/storage" from the ls command? storage is probably the name of your pool not the actual path where visual is mounted.

What’s the mount point of the actual dataset the snapshot is under? You’re looking in /storage/visual, but the dataset is called storage/visual/backup.

thank you for the reply, but the data-set storage is mounted as /storage.

thank you, that was it. It is still rather confusing, looking at the thread, a link of which I posted, which indicates that the data@xxxxxx is the name.
However, I will now remember the lesson.
