A Full Guide: FreeBSD 13.3 on a MacBook Pro 11.4 (Mid 2015) (A1398)

After a few months of work, I have gotten FreeBSD 13.3 working nearly 100% on a Macbook Pro 14.4.

I have outlined the steps of getting everything to work on my blog: https://joshua.hu/FreeBSD-on-MacbookPro-114-A1398

The full post is too large to post here, but it outlines how to patch, configure, and install, FreeBSD-13.3 with all of the hardware and software working as one would expect it as if this was any type of laptop.

Among other software-based things, the following works:
  • Speakers and microphone,
  • Screen and keyboard backlights,
  • Hardware acceleration,
  • Wifi and Bluetooth,
  • Suspend and resume,
  • Thunderbolt ports,
  • Gesture-based trackpad,
  • Fan control,
  • SD card reader.
The only exception is the webcam (for now).
