I've been running FreeBSD 12.1 on my MacPro for a couple of weeks and just noticed that sound doesn't appear to be working. Here's what I've done to troubleshoot:
sudo cat /dev/sndstat
Installed devices:
pcm0: <Realtek ALC889A (Analog)> (play/rec)
pcm1: <Realtek ALC889A (Rear Digital)>...
