    Can't install FreeBSD 9.0 on HP Proliant DL160 gen8

According to yongari@ it will be MFCd after 3 ~ 4 weeks. So it is doubtful that it will make an appearance in 9.1-RELEASE.

    Can't install FreeBSD 9.0 on HP Proliant DL160 gen8

FreeBSD 8.3 or the upcoming FreeBSD 9.1 have newer versions of the ciss driver, which support the P420 raid controller. None of those versions work with the built in Broadcom NIC BCM5719 though.

    Corrupted screen installing FreeBSD 9.0

There's a recent commit which should fix the problem.

    Intel D2700MUD Mini-ITX Motherboard

Personal experience with a D2500CC and this pr suggest it's not terribly good at the moment. This seems to be the case for most if not all of the recently released atom 2000-series. i386 has the least problems, and is only affected by minor text corruption. for amd64 in VGA-mode the video...

    Corrupted screen installing FreeBSD 9.0

There also seems to be an issue with the serial console for this board and D2700 based ones.

The urge to maintain binary packages

I would recommend ports-mgmt/tinderbox-devel since it supports many more advanced features, like mass-queuing and parallel builds.

ZFS write performance issues with WD20EARS

So if I just add a gnop provider with -S 4096 to the device, it will already be aligned correctly? So far the pool has an ashift of 12, which would be correct. Is this the way it is supposed to look if its aligned correctly? geom label list ada0 Geom name: ada0 Providers: 1. Name...

ZFS write performance issues with WD20EARS

You're actually right, or well half: upon creating the partitions on the ada*.nop, there are ada*.nopp1 slices which I used to create the zpool, but when I exported it and destroyed the gnop devices, the zpool was gone too. Those probably weren't any valid devices to begin with. I should...

ZFS write performance issues with WD20EARS

I'm not sure if I get this right. I have 6 of those drives, which I plan to use for a raidz2 pool. Do I have to worry about the alignment if I use the gnop method to create the zpool? And if so, would this achieve what is necessary? for i in /dev/ada*;do dd if=/dev/zero of=$i bs=1m count=1;done...

Build Your Own FreeBSD Update Server

    Yeah i noticed that too. You need to make these changes to scripts/build.subr. --- scripts/build.subr.orig 2011-03-04 11:09:38.000000000 +0100 +++ scripts/build.subr 2011-02-14 15:10:33.000000000 +0100 @@ -301,7 +301,7 @@ # Figure out where the disc1 ISO image is RELNUM=${REL%-*} -...

Build Your Own FreeBSD Update Server

Very useful indeed. The only thing that remains a bit unclear is where one would make customisations to the kernel, or rather if those would have to be made to the GENERIC configuration or by adding a custom one and setting KERNELPARTS to that target? Thanks in advance for clarifying.

    XBMC for FreeBSD

A problem I have been encountering is with digital audio output, specifically AC3 and DTS passthru. XBMC (well actually ALSA) insists that it is an iec958 when it really is a Realtek ALC889. AC3 and DTS capable receiver is connected via coax. sysctl hw.snd.default_unit=2 sysctl...

    XBMC for FreeBSD

I'm also testing this port with all the gimmicks (vdpau, nonfree, ffmpeg) enabled. So far it seems to be working, playing 1080p BD-rips with almost no CPU load (0.1). libvdpau is bundled to the nvidia-driver, make sure you compile it before you build the XBMC, and make sure you compile...

Well the apparent solution would be to upgrade to a supported release.

libxml2 -- configure: Syntax error: Bad substitution

I've noticed this too on 3 different 6.1 servers. I guess this is the first sign of things to come for 6.x and an indication that it is really EOL and no longer supported...

FreeBSD 7.3 amd64 rsnapshot woes (libc issue?)

Another update in this mystery: A previously unaffected box exhibited this behaviour, luckily this one was a non-production test box, so we built a debug kernel with: makeoptions DEBUG=-g # gdb(1) debug symbols options KDB # Enable kernel debugger support. options DDB # Support DDB. options...
