Thanks for inspiration trasz@.
If i take part and contribute in the projects listed(in freebsd project idea list) for google summer of code will I automatically be eligible for it. Or i have to register for it separately?
Thanks a ton lme@.
I have introduced my self on hackers@freebsd.org. Also will join mailing lists. But they are quite many. Which will be good to join in beginning? (device driver, freebsd-hackers looks suitable, i guess). As per projects, I have mailed link(to freebsd projects list) to my...
Greetings to All Forum users!
Its great to work with Freebsd again after so long(my college insists all development work on Windows:()
However, I will directly come to my query.
For quite some time I am trying to contribute back to open source s/w especially Freebsd(have decided to...
Hi!
FreeBSD on my machine is: FreeBSD 8.0-RELEASE-p3. It's completely updated with freebsd-update and ports updated with portsnap update.
I tried to install KDE4 (through ports) and got following errors during make:

Thanks for reply FrogLS!
I have attached dmesg in my first post. The drive is recognized.
Will try that step and shall post the result. Thanks again for your kind reply
Sorry FrogLS, it didn't work. I even increased block size to 16KB. I also double checked the mount directory permission. Also the double entry were removed(only in rc.conf now).I also tried same with my friend's 8GB Transced JFV10 flash drive but same result: File Input/Output error.
Thanks for reply FrogLS. I also believe that's the problem as I changed usb disk from fat32->ntfs with windows default settings. I will also remove the double entry. I will try the methods suggested by you and will share my findings. Thanks again.(permissions are alright as the mount directory...
No help yet. :-( Its alright .. For a great OS like FreeBSD I m ready to sacrifice this little.e
However an additional info. I also rechecked my usb disk for errors in windows too. As some threads suggested:

It found my drive errorless. If any one has any other suggestion kindly...
Hi,
I have a external usb hard disk (Transcend StoreJet 500GB). It came formatted with fat32 format. That time it worked nicely with freebsd using following command:
mount -t msdosfs -o large /dev/da0s1 /media/Transcend.
However I then formatted the disk with ntfs format in Windows(to copy...
Thanks again for reply wblock. The problem is that FreeBSD doesnot recognize my dvd rw. However I used ntfs-fuse for writing to windows partition and it worked.
I will also try growisofs once i get it installed. However thanks a ton for your kind replies.

Thanks for your kind reply wblock.
So i will have to find corresponding partition from fstab and do the backup.
Just one more doubt here. I have one Windows partition on hard disk itself(along side freebsd,ad4s2), So I think same rule applies here too. It won't be backed with dump even if my...
Hi,
I have FreeBSD 8 Release(updated) installed. Struggling with poor net and power cuts I installed all the nescessary s/w like Xfce, emacs, etc. I now want to backup whole system in case if any thing wrong happens(as I am new I am still exploring the system). I want to make copy of whole...
Thanks Sir Dice. Gnome got installed:e. Frankly speaking this is a great forum. I have tried various OS(including various GNU/linux), but here I get prompt and genuine replies. Really FreeBSD is one of the most mature and stable OS and so are the users and members of this forum. Hope I will be...
Thanks for reply SIFE!. I applied Sir Dice's solution at present. However I couldn't understand the deinstallation system. Won't deinstalling some package say xyz 1.1 and installing xyz 1.2 will make those installed with pakcage xyz 1.1 as dependecy unstable. Like you are telling future...
