    FreeBSD 9.0 + CUPS + HPLIP + HP Deskjet F2200 = no success yet.

Is it safe to assume that you have Foomatic (Foomatic filters) installed? I can't remember if CUPS automatically installs it. Well anyway .... try this .... See if you have a /usr/local/etc/foomatic directory. If so, take a look at the file filter.conf. Edit it to make sure that the following...

Need tips for minimizing downtime of hardware migration

The easiest way to accomplish what you need would be.... -- Assemble new server and install FreeBSD and configure it for network access. -- Temorarily disconnect hard drives on other machine (ninlil) and put old IDE drive in that machine (Set IDE jumpers for master, slave, or CS as needed)...

    NFS stop working unexpectedly

You can succesfully ping the other box by using the IP address. You can probably also successfully ping 127.0.0.1 .... but all that means is that the IP protocol is working. It doesn't mean your network configuration is setup properly. Try Joel's suggestion regarding your hosts file on the...

    NFS stop working unexpectedly

I think I missed this post above where you said .... Why does your resolv.conf file on both your server and client machines consist of only this line? What type of network are you running? E.g. .... Is this a home network with an ISP modem and off the shelf router? Are you running a separate...

    Samba problems connecting

Post your actual /usr/local/etc/smb.conf file from the Samba server that is giving you problems (Not the output of testparm). It doesn't matter if you created only one user on the Windows machine. You always have the ability to log onto a network share as a different user. ("Connect using a...

    Samba problems connecting

If you want to use the user "nobody" to map drives to the Samba shares, did you add the user "nobody" to the Samba user database? I don't think the user "nobody" will work unless you specifically add it. smbpasswd -a nobody Also, when mapping a drive from Windows XP, you will need to click...

Unable to add boot entry to Grub

When using Grub2 you must specify a module for a file system such as UFS2. That is done with the "insmod" statement inserted on the boot menu. Try this example.... or a variation of it depending on your drive and partition location... menuentry "FreeBSD" { insmod ufs2 set...

    Local Hostname Lookup Failure

If you want to be able to resolve NETBIOS names for a local workgroup of Windows workstations, you might want to look into setting up your Samba Server to also act as a WINS server... http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/NetworkBrowsing.html If you set up your Samba...

    Disk layout

RAID and/or mirroring on a desktop workstation? This is a somewhat divisive topic that tends to pit the more "geeky" type computer people against the more "practical" type computer users. In practical terms, there are very few uses were a desktop workstation would ever need such a setup...

    Hp p1006

Have you taken a look at the CUPS error log located at /var/log/cups/error_log ? Usually that might send you in the right direction for troubleshooting. You can turn up the log level by editing the /usr/local/etc/cups/cupsd.conf file to debug... E.g... LogLevel debug Then restart CUPS...

    Boot options

If you want the option to boot into Windows, FreeBSD, and Linux from one machine, .... your best bet is to use the Linux Grub boot loader. Installing Windows first is correct. Then you can install whatever you wish. One thing to consider, Grub will not not automatically detect FreeBSD when it...

    Printer..... is not printing :P

That article is for setting up CUPS on an Ubuntu box. You shouldn't need to be adding such a user on FreeBSD just to get CUPS going. I just set up a CUPS server last week on a FreeBSD box with an attached HP inkjet printer to be a server for Ubuntu and Windows workstations. I didn't have to...
