    Virtualbox bridging with vlans

Looking into how VirtualBox does its bridging - via netgraph - it became apparent something on the FreeBSD-side was wrong. Netgraph uses a period for its path separator and was choking on the new-style interface naming. This was discussed a few months ago on the freebsd-net mailing list, but...

    Virtualbox bridging with vlans

I used to use cloned_interfaces and ifconfig_vlan100="vlandev bge0 vlan 100 192.168.2.1/24" but I recently re-read the rc.conf man page. Is the man page wrong about this new syntax? It appears to work fine for me - the host can interact with all the vlans perfectly.

    Virtualbox bridging with vlans

Hi. I've got an odd situation here on 8.2-STABLE with virtualbox-ose-4.0.4 and a guest built from the same /usr/obj. Upgraded to VirtualBox 4.0.8 (including rebuilding/reloading the kmod) with no change. Host rc.conf: vlans_bge0="100" ifconfig_bge0="inet 10.0.0.1/24" ifconfig_bge0_100="inet...

    DTrace in 7.1-p2

I know it's an old thread, but this is one of the top google results for psinfo.d so may help someone else with the same problem This may have been the case previously or for 7.x, but the wiki page says: After failing to RTFM properly the first time around, I can confirm you do need it on...

FreeBSD 7.2 up and running... Where's Enlightenment???

E16 is x11-wm/e16 nowadays. x11-wm/enlightenment is DR17 despite having a 0.16 version number. Caught me out the other day :(

    Dangerously dedicated support flushed?!

    So am I safe with my unpartitioned+unlabelled mounts, as in: # newfs /dev/da0 # mount /dev/da0 /blah or # gstripe label foo /dev/da0 /dev/da1 # newfs /dev/stripe/foo # mount /dev/stripe/foo /bar or do I need to start faffing around fdisk/bsdlabel'ing everything?

Boot hanging at "Trying to mount root from"

I've got it booting now... Re-did the 8.0R base binary upgrade to get a chroot shell, replaced my /etc files and ran fsck -y on everything. I guess there may an issue somewhere with init's i/o handling when driving a serial console - when it hung the kernel would print (eg. plugging a USB...

Boot hanging at "Trying to mount root from"

I have a Dell 2950, 2x4 Xeon E5430, 32GB RAM, PERC6/i and 2x PERC6/e's which suffered a power failure. Since then I have been unable to boot it. It was running amd64 8.0 cvsupped from about 3 weeks ago and custom kernel. The boot ends at "Trying to mount root from ufs:/dev/mfid1s1a" unless...

Best way to automatically backup mysql db's?

mysqldump is quick, easy and relatively painless for small databases, but it's next to useless for bigger setups (don't forget that it'll usually take many times longer to restore your data than to back it up!). For larger setups, the trick is to FLUSH TABLES WITH READ LOCK, take a filesystem...

Can't access the installation options menu!

I think the correct way's to do 'make rmconfig' (at least that's what /usr/ports/Mk/bsd.port.mk suggests) but just deleting the 'work' directory should do the job

    SNMP disk space.

You sure? 6.2 and 8.0 both have this: $ grep MINFREE /usr/src/sys/ufs/ffs/fs.h * MINFREE gives the minimum acceptable percentage of filesystem #define MINFREE 8 lbl: See the "-m" option in the man pages for newfs and tunefs

Installing FreeBSD from an IPMI serial-over-lan console

Ditto. I've never managed to get FreeBSD installed over SOL. Likewise on this morning's messing about with an 8.0 install which can't mount root I've not been able to get GENERIC to use the second serial port (it's COM2 on Dell hardware, not COM3) Be glad you've got a KVM over IPMI. Dell users...

    New disk changed device numbers

Hi there. Long-time FreeBSD sysadmin with a little problem. Built an 8.0 machine fine, attached+configured a few disk arrays to the machine, rebooted, and what was my mfid0 is now mfid1. There's 3 RAID controllers in the machine, and the kernel output is basically saying this: mfi0: PERC6/E at...
