The re driver in 8.2-RELEASE is broken for RealTek 8169/8111, and is fixed if you use 8.2-STABLE (I used STABLE snapshot from May 2011).
Either that or just check out the re source from STABLE...
I can confirm that the re driver was not working on 8.2-RELEASE, but is working (out of the box) with the last 8.2-STABLE snapshot (May 2011).

I'm looking at picking up some of these things (sandy bridge) at the moment, and my work colleagues have indicated that even though these CPU's have virtualization technology directed I/O (VT-d) enabled, one wouldn't be able to use it for hardware-enabled VM's (KVM or Xen) unless the motherboard...
I get the same dropped connections after a certain interval, but I've checked my router config and there is no 'group key update' option to change.
I'm using WPA-PSK as well, on a Belkin Pre-N router.
Probably quite obsolete by now.

Berndt's patch worked first time 'out of the box' for me, haven't tried all the wifi features though.
