you can use a 3rd window manager, fully customizable, if you first remove the components that boot you into Xfce or MATE, thence many freebsd configurations besides those have been already done, saving you hours of time, at least in my case. [ Sorry to not know which components... ]
There are tutorials using Linux on the web but for prior versions and the instuctions in threads seem to pertain to those prior versions [ that is, need updating ] and I cannot ascertain how to use them, as instructed, at first glance ... [ though I did get audacity to record a .wav, I think...
I believe usb disks are poor targets for rsync because the program runs many instances of itself, if you want it to continue being responsive [ but the backup will take much longer ] use the --bwlimit= parameter. For USB I would use 900 and see if the lockups are fixed, and bump it up if so...
atril, firefox, and various others no longer run with
ld-elf.so.1: /usr/local/lib/libgtk-3.so.0: Undefined symbol "g_string_free_and_steal"
Just posting in case anyone else is encountering the same and has time [vs here] to check what the
problem may be. [ I have not tried building gtk3...
The gtk2 version works, the gtk3 version does not, and SUCCESS! on displaying urls's such as in
the first post. "old.reddit.com/r/weather/.rss" as usable. Thanks!. This is a workaround until
hopefully seamonkey works again.
This is inconvenient not only because I cannot fix it so far by a simple libmap.conf edit, as I have
backups with the working libraries but not how to stitch them together this time;
but seamonkey was the only browser I found that could still display, for example, an rss enabled webpage as a...
make cleanworld
make -DNO_CLEAN buildworld
no /etc/src.conf
/etc/make.conf contains only a block related to /usr/ports/ports-mgmt/portconf and nothing else
Unfortuntely I cannot post the relevant lines of failure just yet, vs the error above.
ld: error: unable to find library -legacy
Stop
make[3]: stopped in /usr/src/usr.bin/clang/llvm-tblgen
1. Can this be surpassed by setting another version of llvm/clang, and if so, how [ where to set it ] ?
2 Can this be surpassed by building another source tree, say, v14? Current?
3. Can...
Off topic, but I conjecture if the majority of users using freebsd-update began building from source instead, new version releases would have less gotcha's than, say, the v 13 v14 one, also, more blogs and threads would be up for those who build install from source to have a checklist before...
I had to change pkg+http to http in /etc/FreeBSD.conf
within which, and at the command line at first to bootstrap, as
suggested above,
..... also .....
I replaced $ABI with FreeBSD:14:amd64
[ and renamed the same file in /usr/local/etc
to be irrelevant ]
....
this allowed pkg-static, at...
Thanks! However, no combination I try seems to work. This however seems promising.
/usr/src
is on *main* and a quick search does not find the git command
to switch it to releng as suggested above...
the $ABI for current-14 now no longer works for pkg. What is put in Freebsd.conf
to have a STABLE-14 working when the uname shows a nonexistant current-14 and maybe the latter fact means no $ABI is possible? Anyone with a working example? Not a question for those not "upgrading" from CURRENT...
As this thread discusses bots, I was perm-banned from a very popular forum unexpectedly, all I did was submit a lengthy on-topic reply to a popular thread.
reason for ban: Bot, type: Permanent, Restoration: Never.
and I'm "what on earth?" Anyone know what could have prompted that ban?
