I just built wine from git, reverting the commit which breaks wine for freebsd (there was a conflict, it was easily fixable though). After compiling, apps run again (at least for me - i'm running 8.0-CURRENT) ;)

This doesn't look good indeed :/ Well, i guess the only way to get working wine now is to downgrade to 1.1.7 or revert the commit which is mentioned in that bug report, which i'll try later.

I have used gentoo for quite some time, but it went hownhill quite drastically. Right now I use freebsd and exherbo, which is basically Gentoo done right. Unfortunately it's still pre-alpha, and doesn't have some essential packages, but with some bash scripting skills you can write exhereses...

This is probably because your ext3 partition has 256-byte inode size. Freebsd can't handle that yet, although that's nothing a simple patch can't fix. Best thing would be to either edit the hardcoded 128-byte inode size in the kernel, or simply remake the partition specifying 128-byte inodes...

I run freebsd 8.0-CURRENT on thinkpad T61p. It works quite well, acpi is supported through acpi_ibm module, and most of the keyboard keys work for me, battery life is acceptable (but definitely room for improvement) and there are various sysctl's to control the ibm-specific hardware stuff, like...
