I am trying to restore a server with only 4GB of RAM but when I try to run:
gunzip -c /media/full-system-backup.zfs.gz | zfs receive -vdF
It fails during this process as it runs out of swap space. When I run top all the memory is allocated to the ZFS ARC. I am booting off a STABLE 10.2 r290274...
Thanks for the replies. I have never used single user mode when upgrading FreeBSD. I've also been using ZFS for a few years now so I am baffled still as to WHY I am getting errors about a read-only file system? I also don't understand the "Operation not supported" warning?
I did not use freebsd-update as I run STABLE. The exact steps I followed when upgrading is as follows:
rm -rf /usr/src
svn co svn://svn.freebsd.org/base/stable/10/usr/src
cd /usr/src
make -j `sysctl -n hw.ncpu` buildworld
make -j `sysctl -n hw.ncpu` buildkernel
make installkernel
shutdown -r...
Hi All
I have just upgraded my 10.1-STABLE server to 10.2-STABLE. All daemons are running and everything appears to be working...except for some strange boot up errors I get (which I didn't before).
If I look in /var/log/console.log I get the following errors:
Aug 22 13:52:25 mail kernel...
Having reread the title I guess I should have rather said: Upgrade 10.1-STABLE to 10.2-STABLE.
Assumptions eh?
No it doesn't matter that its not tagged yet but I was just being cautious...thats all.
Great, so I have checked out the correct code I need to upgrade to 10.2-STABLE.
Thanks for...
Looks like I am good to go. Contents of /usr/src/sys/conf/newvers.sh show:
TYPE="FreeBSD"
REVISION="10.2"
BRANCH="STABLE"
Strange that it doesn't show it in /usr/src/UPDATING.
I have just checked out the latest SVN code for 10 STABLE:
svn update /usr/src
But when I run ee /usr/src/UPDATING there is no mention of 10.2 in the README file? The last entry is on 20150731.
I'm currently running FreeBSD 10.1-STABLE #0 r282198.
Ok, so I tried sending a test email using telnet:

Argh, I'm trying! Busy registering on the Symantec website to be able to log a call. I'm pretty sure they'll tell me to go away since I am not a customer!
I have sent a test email from my Gmail address successfully. I know for a fact that I am not on any RBLs as I monitor my mail quite closely and do regular blacklist checks.
The questions is, will they troubleshoot this issue or even speak to me as I am not a customer of theirs?
If I send an email to the address where it bounces back this is what appears in /var/log/maillog:
May 20 12:40:40 mail postfix/smtp[87683]: Trusted TLS connection established to cluster8.eu.messagelabs.com[85.158.137.3]:25: TLSv1 with cipher DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)

I can understand it losing the connection maybe once but this has happened over and over again after sending multiple emails in the last week or so. I don't have any other connection issues when sending email to anyone else.
My IP isn't blacklisted and I have it listed on a whitelist.
When I try to send an email to someone I have emailed multiple times in the past I now get this error after a few hours:

I realise that is an option but is there anything else I could do to migrate my host services to the Jail? I have over 200 ports installed and thought there may be an easier/better way!
I have a server running FreeBSD 10.1-STABLE currently that is mainly used for email. There are no jails on this server.
This weekend I did a bit of reading about Jails. Obviously when I originally built/designed my server I didn't know about Jails so my question is, is it possible to migrate...
I have just updated to Perl 5.20 (from 5.18). I followed the instructions in /usr/ports/UPDATING and have reinstalled all my ports that use Perl. I also restarted the daemons that I needed to.
All was going well until I tried to access my mail/mailgraph and sysutils/monitorix graphs. When I...
