Ubuntu Forums hacked. Should we be concerned?

Yes and no. vBulletin generates a salted MD5 with a JavaScript function on the client side and then transmits the hash directly while doing a login. So one needs to disable this JavaScript and modifies the board to switch to SHA256 or something else. Partly this salt'ing + hashing is done server...

    ATA - DMA timeout ?

Hmm - bit strange but first the scenario. It's a server so I'm a bit unable booting from various analysis systems. ;) It got 2 new HDD's installed and a fresh new installation of FreeBSD 8.1. Though after some time installing ports I the first HDD gets disconnected. dmesg shows: ad4: TIMEOUT -...

Why is there no Gnome 1 in ports?

No problem running KDE 4.6 on an kinda old Athlon XP 2500+ with 512 MB RAM. Except of course I follow the pre-set options (like let Nepomuk index files in background) and let it animate each single "This is a button" balloon additionally using plenty of background services to auto-find the...

White page problem with PHP page after upgrade to php5-5.3.5

Hello :) Did you set: log_errors = On error_log = /whever/your/webserver/can/write/php.log In your php.ini ? Then you'll have a PHP logfile that should help tracking what the problem may be.

    ssmtp issue.

If you plan to let Postfix use Dovecot's Auth, there's no need to install or better compile Postfix with SASL support. Btw. - your netstat output shows there's already exim running at your host. Also mysqld listen on external interfaces is this wanted ?

    Postfix / Sendmail

The problem is MySQL related - downgrade the client to 5.5.7 - the server can run 5.5.8. Then recompile Postfix, PHP and what else depends on MySQL. Just don't upgrade the clients to 5.5.8 yet - then things will be back to a working state. I had similar errors with Pureftpd, Dovecot and...

    Upgrade mysql-client-5.1.52 to mysql-client-5.5.7

I'm running into exactly the same problem with Dovecot, Postfix and Pure-Ftpd - all ports have been recompiled after the mysql ports have been updated from 5.1 to 5.5 Running MySQL from command line and giving it a: SHOW CHARACTER SET; latin1 is shown.

    Difficulty with user accounts

The last error message is group related, even if master.passwd, pwd_mkdb etc. are fine. Tried a: getent passwd getent group And checked the output ? The manually created a "test" group to see if the command runs without problems ?

    Updating OpenSSL

The original concern was maybe: http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2010-2939 Though for the "base" OpenSSL there's a patch available already, still some software (e.g. rkhunter) will still detect the version and report it as "old & outdated"

    This forum: horribly slow?

Hmm - no difference here may it be FF, Opera (even OS doesn't make a difference). Though I've JS disabled by default and run a local caching proxy. Still, if https is faster wait until everyone's using it :D

    EDE Equinox

Nope - everything ok. I was compiling without MySQL support and - without - it works. Still the port itself is far from working if all flavors aren't supported. Let's see if that can be get working again too :)
