I usually start X via kdm. (/usr/local/etc/rc.d/kdm4 forcestart) to run KDE. It was the same thing with any X though.
I see it becomes a bit more complicated when you need more than one option. :)
Well now,
I tried one more thing after posting this, and it seems there is a new syntax:
/usr/local/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/input.conf
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "Keyboard Defaults"
Driver "keyboard"
MatchIsKeyboard "on"
Option "Protocol" "standard"
Option "XkbRules" "base"...
I really tried reading other threads before posting this.
Here goes:
I just upgraded X to 1.14 and after some tweaking most things seem to work, however the configuration does not seem to make any difference.
/var/log/Xorg.0.log says:
[ 38.803] (II) config/devd: probing input devices...

Sorry to disturb you guys. The dbus problem was certainly a permission problem (I tend to do su -m and get a lot of root stuff in my home dir).
I really would like to have console and X working at the same time though.
I checked that I had some remains from my previous Xorg build. After rebuild of xf86-input-ports at least mouse and keyboard works under X.
I still lose console as X starts and KDE keeps screaming about dbus though.
I just got an X121e and was so used to Intel graphics card working out of the box that I didn't check any further than that but was a little more worries about Wifi and 3G etc. Of course it was completely the other way around. All network stuff worked immediately but graphics was only distorted...

I tried but as it seems not hard enough. Odd solution but it works so far ;)

No no.
1) copy /usr/local/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-x11-input.fdi to /usr/local/etc/hal/fdi/policy/
2) Edit the file and add som lines like:
<merge key="input.xkb.layout" type="string">fr</merge>

Done.
a 'dbus_enable="YES"' also perhaps.
Yes, is seems good to use HAL if you are about to use HAL so to speak. ;)
Is there anyone out there who has got everyting to work by now?
I would be much obliged if someone told me how to get back the "middle-button-paste" function on my Thinkpad.
2 definitely.
I have soo far found one plus: I get Xv-extensions on my Radeon card. The middle "mouse"-button on my T60 does not work. I have the same problem as described earlier where typed text does not show up until the mouse cursor is moved. External screens does not work. The Swedish...
