    Boot process halts (Screenshot included)

I tried to find out if my keyboard is responding or not. I tested by pressing the NUM LOCK key and the LED was going ON/OFF so the keyboard is active. Now if this is an accurate way of testing or not that I am not exactly sure. For the past 6 years when I was using various Linux distros this...

    Boot process halts (Screenshot included)

$ freebsd-version 13.0-RELEASE-p7 No, no new hardware or upgrade to a new point release. I guessed myself that this is a tough one to troubleshoot so I want to know. Is there any key combination which will reboot the machine from that state ? CTRL+ALT+DEL is not now working.

Jailing Firefox .....Getting error .... Can't proceed

By personal data I mean everything that I have stored locally like family photos, songs, videos, my KeePassXC database, etc. Edit: I just moved the .mozilla folder from the jail to the host's home, ran the update.sh script and then moved it back to the jail. This is not ideal but doable.

One major difference that I found between Linux and FreeBSD || How frequently do you install updates ?

So you choose not to install all the updates offered ? You pick particular packages and leave the rest ? Is there a reason for that ? Like avoiding breakage ? In the short period that I have FreeBSD I have updated everything but nothing broke. Now suppose after running pkg-audit I find a...

One major difference that I found between Linux and FreeBSD || How frequently do you install updates ?

This I have never done before so I will search for a tutorial online but thing I want to ask. Q) Isn't running pkg update / package upgrade ultimately the same thing instead of checking a local mail ? I mean this mail needs to be checked using CLI right ? So instead of checking a mail if I run...

One major difference that I found between Linux and FreeBSD || How frequently do you install updates ?

grahamperrin I want to get notified about two things. (a) When to run freebsd-update fetch install and (b) when to upgrade to a new point release. I can understand that its not possible to notify user about when to run pkg upgrade coz that depends on the specific packages installed which...

Jailing Firefox .....Getting error .... Can't proceed

It happened after sometime. Frankly speaking this is disappointing. Creating this Jail wasn't easy. All credit does to you. Q) Running Firefox inside a Jail Vs Running Firefox inside a Virtualbox VM ..... Why provides more isolation ? Host : FreeBSD VM : FreeBSD / Linux

eternal_noob SirDice I just received this email so I don't have to rely on the output of freebsd-update fetch install when my install reaches EOL. This mailing list thing is really useful.

One major difference that I found between Linux and FreeBSD || How frequently do you install updates ?

SirDice Honestly speaking this is one thing that I don't like about FreeBSD. This "three months after the release of 13.1-RELEASE" is too confusing not only for newbies like me but experienced users like you. Why do you think the FreeBSD team doesn't announce a date ? I am not expecting the day...

One major difference that I found between Linux and FreeBSD || How frequently do you install updates ?

SirDice I am running 13.0-RELEASE-p7. I want to get email notification at least 15 days prior to the EOL of 13.0-RELEASE-p7. Is this possible ? Edit: When 13.0-RELEASE-p7 reaches its EOL is it possible to do an "in place upgrade" ? Or should I download the new ISO and do a fresh install. During...
