Framebuffer issues with ASUS Prime B560-Plus and iGPU without CSM on 12.3 & 13 [Bug: 260735]

If you could do that, please. I am not in the FreeBSD Bugzulla system and I'll probably muck something up trying to submit a bug report.

Solved FreeBSD vs.13 installation from bootable USB fails with 'can't find /etc/hostid' + 'can't find /boot/entropy'

The initial installation is not headless, but once that is done and SSH is up and running, the server continues its life without a screen or a keyboard :)

Solved FreeBSD vs.13 installation from bootable USB fails with 'can't find /etc/hostid' + 'can't find /boot/entropy'

I have two screenshots and more details in the thread here: https://forums.FreeBSD.org/threads/framebuffer-issues-with-asus-prime-b560-plus-and-igpu-without-csm-on-12-3-13.83096/post-545215

Other Files and folders not visible when mounted will nullfs

Another thank you from the future :D I tried mounting several ZFS datasets through nullfs on a UFS top-level media and then nullfs-mount that UFS media into the jail (all done from fstab.jailname). This obviously didn't work as expected leading me to find this thread and rethinking the...

How do I route all Jail traffic through OpenVPN on FIB1

This might be because of missing pf configuration. I have just spent several days trying to get a service running in a jail and have its in- and outbound traffic routed through VPN using FreeBSD 13-STABLE, OpenVPN and regular jail command (/etc/jail.conf). Finally I have made it work! First, a...

Solved FreeBSD vs.13 installation from bootable USB fails with 'can't find /etc/hostid' + 'can't find /boot/entropy'

I ended up going with 13.0-STABLE for my headless NAS on ZFS (https://forums.FreeBSD.org/threads/framebuffer-issues-with-asus-prime-b560-plus-and-igpu-without-csm-on-12-3-13.83096/post-545215), but if I needed to see output on the screen that would not have been an option. I guess for you it...

Framebuffer issues with ASUS Prime B560-Plus and iGPU without CSM on 12.3 & 13 [Bug: 260735]

Please tell how it goes with the RELEASE verson. In my tests 12.3-RC2 had the same framebuffer problem as in 13. And yes, 12.3-RC2 had the support for i219.

Framebuffer issues with ASUS Prime B560-Plus and iGPU without CSM on 12.3 & 13 [Bug: 260735]

An update on what I ended up doing. I installed the system from FreeBSD-13.0-STABLE-amd64-20211125-354988ca3f9-248228-memstick as 13.0-RELEASE does neither have support for the "Ethernet Connection (14) I219-V" adapter, and "frankenbuilding" 12.2/3 didn't feel appealing. The installation was...

Framebuffer issues with ASUS Prime B560-Plus and iGPU without CSM on 12.3 & 13 [Bug: 260735]

Did you mean a 12.3-STABLE - that's the only v12 that I can find in the snapshots? That would seem like an interesting approach to keep using 12.2 for a little while longer I tried now booting into a 12.3-RC2 memstick image with CSM enabled on a discreet GPU and the network interface was...

Framebuffer issues with ASUS Prime B560-Plus and iGPU without CSM on 12.3 & 13 [Bug: 260735]

For that I must have a discreet GPU installed on the system. With iGPU only, legacy boot is disabled in the BIOS. I described this situation in the second post. That GT710 which I used in the test will be used in another build, and I really don't want to buy another videocard just to be able to...

Framebuffer issues with ASUS Prime B560-Plus and iGPU without CSM on 12.3 & 13 [Bug: 260735]

Questions: Has anyone else experienced said problems on the above-mentioned motheboard with the iGPU? Are there work-arounds in v13 (while still keeping to iGPU)? Maybe there is some BIOS/UEFI setting that I overlook? Basically, my posts is a log of two evenings worth of trying to install...

Framebuffer issues with ASUS Prime B560-Plus and iGPU without CSM on 12.3 & 13 [Bug: 260735]

Update: I plugged in an NVidia GT710 that I had lying around and disabled iGPU. This also allowed me to enable the CSM (Compatibility Support Module) which was greyed out in the BIOS without a discreet video card. This allowed me to boot 13.0-STABLE past the EFI framebuffer information screen...

Framebuffer issues with ASUS Prime B560-Plus and iGPU without CSM on 12.3 & 13 [Bug: 260735]

I have been using FreeBSD since v9 for a ZFS-based home NAS, gradually upgrading the system to v12.2 on the same hardware. The time has come to build a new system for the NAS and the choice fell on ASUS Prime B560-Plus motherboard...

Solved FreeBSD vs.13 installation from bootable USB fails with 'can't find /etc/hostid' + 'can't find /boot/entropy'

The exact same problem still persists with FreeBSD-13.0-STABLE-amd64-20211118-3a15ccadf87-248076-memstick.img on ASUS B560-Plus motherboard with an i3-10100 in iGPU mode.

Problems installing FreeBSD 12 on Fujitsu Celsius W570 power

Have spent almost a week trying to get the system to boot, I finally found a solution to the "BTX halted" problem. This bug report pointed me in the right direction : https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=239052 First of all, I updated the BIOS from year 2012 version to the latest...

Problems installing FreeBSD 12 on Fujitsu Celsius W570 power

I have a somewhat related situation after upgrading from 11.0 to 12.0. /boot and /root are on a zfs system BIOS is set to Legacy+UEFI After the upgrade I upgraded the zroot pool with zpool upgrade and installed the updated bootcode using gpart (as outlined here...

    Solved L2ARC is disabled. Why?

Reinstalled the amd64 build and all of the 16GB of memory is now in use. Here is the updated zfs_stats -a report (the system has just started, so the cache is not warmed up): ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ZFS Subsystem Report...

    Solved L2ARC is disabled. Why?

Well, it's not a dinosaur - a 2012 machine with ASUS motherboard and UEFI BIOS. FreeBSD 9 on the same machine used all of the available memory, but I made a custom build of that due to some changes that I had to do to storage controller code, and may have inadvertently enabled 64-bit support at...

    Solved L2ARC is disabled. Why?

Thank you for the in-depth reply. It looks like you nailed it, though I am yet to find out why so little RAM is available. The machine has 16GB (maximum supported) of RAM installed, just as with FreeBSD 9 installation. However, grep memory /var/run/dmesg.boot gives the following output: real...
