Successful creation of Win 7 USB installer from with FreeBSD
Success at last! I finally managed to make a bootable Windows 7 USB installer from within FreeBSD using nothing but the .iso image.
My aim was to create a NTFS filesystem on a USB stick, extract the contents of the installation...
I'm not certain this is appropriate in this case, but have you already enabled hald and/or dbus in /etc/rc.conf?
hald_enable="YES"
dbus_enable="YES"
Or alternatively disabled them in /etc/rc.conf and disabled AutoAddDevices in the ServerLayout section of xorg.conf?
Option...
I was on the brink of purchasing the Yeeloong notebook for use with OpenBSD, until I found out that the battery life is only approximately 1.5 hours :(
Excluding the battery they seem great, a completely blob-free machine!
I seem to remember reading that porting OpenBSD to it was quite a...
I have finally found a solution, and I am sure many of you will find it useful in the future! :e
It does not appear that the base system supports the majority of UDF versions, but the archivers/p7zip port does!
Using only:
7z e en_windows_7_ultimate_x64_dvd_x15-65922.iso
I was able to...
It does seem to be ok according to http://www.freshports.org/ftp/proftpd/
There are also -stable packages for the latest version on the ftp mirrors (I only checked amd64 and i386).
I had this same issue a few years ago with an ASUS Eee-PC 900. The included Atheros WiFi card was not supported by OpenBSD, so I swapped it for an Intel WiFi card known to work extremely well - Only to find that it was not exposed to the OS! x(
You are lucky in that it seems relatively simple...
That is correct, it will show you updates available from the ports tree (and even in -stable packages there may not yet be a pre-compiled package).
It is the identification of Root/Trunk/Branch/Leaf installed packages that is useful when deciding which are no longer necessary and can be safely...
I thought that might be the case. Do you know if there is a way I can define which hierarchy is examined, or if there are any tools I can use to extract the UDF component?
Right now, it looks like I will have to build emulators/virtualbox-ose in the near future! :(
I think there is definitely something different about this iso image, it seems as if it is part iso9660/CDFS, and part iso13346/UDF... I am very perplexed!
I am just hoping there is some other way (ports) I can access the content?
Here is an isoinfo dump from sysutils/cdrtools :
#...
As an alternative to snapshots, I find portmaster -L extremely useful for identifying installed ports that are no longer required.
This handbook entry explains it very succinctly: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/ports-using.html
# portmaster -L
===>>> Root ports (No...
I've found this comment on the mailing lists:
http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-questions/2010-June/218040.html
Which I am inclined to think is still the case. I doubt that support has simply been omitted, is it possible that proprietary code is involved - preventing inclusion in the...
I seem to be having no luck mounting a dvd iso image, I have verified the sha1sum.
# mdconfig -a -f en_windows_7_ultimate_x64_dvd_x15-65922.iso
md0
# mount_cd9660 /dev/md0 /mnt
# ls -la /mnt

Xorg is quite a large port, so I imagine the default configuration and package need to have very 'friendly' defaults. I would guess the majority of our heavy DE users installing from packages would be a little upset if they had to compile xorg.
Although, as you said there may be an...
Like wblock@ said, worth mentioning if you are running a full DE like Gnome/KDE.
I've used the AutoAddDevices option a few times myself whilst using x11-wm/spectrwm, and leaning towards the minimalist camp I find it quite satisfying :)
It does look that way, unfortunately it seems there is little that can be done about it.
It is probably worth posting your dmesg and pciconf -lv for future reference, and to aid in any further assistance :)
Good luck with that disk :) I totally agree with wblock@, gpart is the way forward.
Watch out if using dd on GPT disks, gpart stores metadata at both ends of the partition. Saving time by just zeroing out the first few MB of the disk without a gpart destroy -F could end up causing headaches!
I would be tempted to zero out that 1TB disk, just to be sure it is a 100% clean slate! You'll get the added bonus of letting the drive attempt to address any bad blocks it may encounter.
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/ada0 bs=1m
Adjusting your output device name accordingly of course :)
x11-wm/spectrwm is a very flexible tiling wm written by the talented people at Conformal Systems https://opensource.conformal.com/wiki/spectrwm
It used to be known as 'scrotwm', but I think the devs decided to tone it down a little ;)
