    Jail does not autostart Samba

Hi Mamalos, right about that indeed! Just wanted to say a big thank you for your attention to my post. I've been learning unix from scratch since about august last year now. It's been a hell of a steap learning curve at time, but solving stuff like this makes it so much fun! Next on my...

    Jail does not autostart Samba

Orum seems to have "solved" this problem somehow, in this post. Although I don't fully understand his writings, I also kind of solved the nmbd problem in another way. Since I figured I don't really need nmbd, I turned it off with: samba_enable="YES" smbd_enable="YES" nmbd_enable="NO" Can't...

    Jail does not autostart Samba

I have done some comparing between what you and I did. Also done a bit of reading in order to understand your choices. I altered my host rc.conf to: jail_enable="YES" jail_list="docs" jail_set_hostname_allow="NO" jail_docs_hostname="docs.area50" jail_docs_rootdir="/root/jails/docs"...

    Jail does not autostart Samba

Hey Mamalos, thanks for your reply, I'm ready to dive in some more into my jail.. Just a quick question before I begin; since you're mentioning that your lo1 interface plays no role, would that mean I could leave it out?

    Jail does not autostart Samba

Hi Guys, I'm having troubles getting Samba to autostart from within a jail. I'll provide you with the following info: My host rc.conf file: hostname="area50.hilderink" ifconfig_ale0=" inet 192.168.0.50 netmask 255.255.255.0" defaultrouter="192.168.0.1"...

    Permisson problem

Starting the system in single user mode automatically logs you in as root. It's the first point in the boot process where FreeBSD can present you with a shell. You can use it to fix things. While being root you are boss, meaning you can do everything without extra permissions and there is...

    make buildkernel

Hi SirDice, Thanks for the quick reply! I'm just done building a kernel, configured without sound. This is just for testers and the kernel name is TEST (I did KERNCONF=TEST, after configuring). In my /etc/make.conf I also added NO_MODULES=yes, because I want to only keep the *.ko files I...

    make buildkernel

Hi Guys, I am trying to see what's happening when I go through the various stages of configuring, building and installing a kernel. What happens when I do: make buildkernel I know it compiles my custom kernel, using KERNCONFIG=SOMEKERNEL. The handbook just goes over this and straight to the...

Problem mounting a slice on USB

Looks like it got better. The USB drive I tried installing to was a USB 3.0 drive. I replaced it with a USB 2.0 drive (the laptop only has USB 2.0) and all works accordingly. So, USB 3.0 on USB 2.0 = No Go. I could still see the drive and make adjustments to it. Is anyone able to elaborate?

Problem mounting a slice on USB

Something Samba - can't rename random folders.

I know this post is rather old now, but I have solved all my Samba problems. I can't remember how I solved this particular problem but I still want to share a few things that I learned while playing with Samba, hoping other people might be helped: - In the Samba rc script I entered a delay of...

Problem mounting a slice on USB

Hi all, How are you doing? I am trying to play around by installing FreeBSD onto a USB drive and I seem to have come across a rather simple problem... (or challenge if you like). Currently I am running FreeBSD 9.0-RELEASE on my netbook in a XFCE environment, from where I am trying the...

    A very simple Apache22 problem

Hi J65nko, thanks for the fast and helpfull reply. I fixed the issue and got it working the way I want to though. The reason I think, was that I flashed my router (a Netgear WNDR3700v2) with the DD-Wrt firmware. On that the port forwarding didn't work as I wanted. Trough Google I came on some...

    A very simple Apache22 problem

Hi All, I am encountering a very simple (by the looks of it) problem with Apache22. To become familiarized with the configuration of the server I started off with a normal ports install, default config settings. In the httpd.conf the only thing I toyed with was the Listen directive. I set...

Thanks guys! All your answers combined gave me a good understanding of where to find information about this matter, looks like I have some reading up to do :)

    make(1) arguments

Hi SirDice, Thanks a lot for the quick reply! I am not sure, but I think I might have to specify my question a bit more. Currently I am not so much interested on the topic of how to use makefiles but more in how I can use make(1) with the ports tree. So far I have been experimenting on...

    make(1) arguments

Hi all, Every now and then I find people describing things on forums on how to use "make". I notice how they add arguments to the make command such as "make install", "make config" etc. My question is, where can I find documentation about all these arguments? Have already tried the regular...

Something Samba - can't rename random folders.

Sorry, I forgot to add that the error I am getting when I try to modify the files and folders is something like cannot move folder because it is already opened by another program It's the error I am getting from my Windows machine.
