(I'm new to *BSD)
How do people manage building/provisioning, automatically, to multiple servers?
E.g. Is it possible in FreeBSD to create "build image"? Or is a there a better way to automatically installing FreeBSD + all other required software I need (e.g. Postgres, etc.) than using a...

Since this topic has been obviously exhausted at length in the mail-list, I'll stop asking questions here.
Thanks again for everything you do for FreeBSD
Why do I need the us the same hardware they did?
Seems like I should just be able to fire up Virtualbox on my machine. Load Ubuntu in one instance, FreeBSD in the other instance.
Then run the tests and show which operating system is proportionally faster/slower.
(Obviously not run the images...

Thanks for the comment.
Has there been any talk of someone reproducing the test results.
Also, you mentioned this topic has been talked about a lot on the mail list. Where can I read that conversation on the web?
@Everyone
Since the tests were in fact on the same hardware, as the updated article indicates, can someone please validate these test.
I ask because FreeBSD is significantly slower and this should be addressed.
Thanks in advance developers for all that you do.
Why only 64 cores when in the code commit it states it can do much more (128):
Excerpt from code commit: "Please additively note that no MAXCPU is bumped in this patch, but
private testing has been done until to MAXCPU=128 on a real 8x8x2(htt)
machine (amd64)."
With FreeBSD 9 upon us, has the maximum # of cores FreeBSD can support changed?
If I read this commit correctly, it sounds like there is NO maximum core/cpu limit anymore. Is that correct?
@Everyone
Since a lot of people have mentioned virtualization, where does FreeBSD fit into the picture.
For web development, Xen has a strong hold over the "virtual private server" market but as many have pointed out, Xen appears to be dying to Linux KVM.
As such, will FreeBSD be able to be...

To summarize, this is what I've heard as why to NOT use FreeBSD:
- Hardware support: rarely an issue this days but when it happens, you're forced to use another OS.
- Commercial software support: many commercial software packages won't run on FreeBSD but instead are certified on...
When would it be appropriate to NOT use FreeBSD over another BDS or Linux?
In other words, what strengths do other BSD or Linux have over FreeBSD.
The only reason I can think of to not use FreeBSD is:
- Desktop: want a more focus OS on the end user desktop experience. In which case, you can...
1a. Is LLVM/Clang the default C/C++ compiler for FreeBSD 9 (amd64)?
1b. If so, how do I envoke the llvm compiler, meaning - what's the equivalent of running "gcc ..."?
2. Was all of FreeBSD 9 (amd64) built using LLVM/Clang solely (no GCC)?
3. Is GCC completely removed from FreeBSD 9...
It's at the boot prompt immediately. First thing I see is a console menu asking me to install FreeBSD (verbose mode, etc). Then it immediately crashes and crashes it will reboot automatically in "15 seconds).
AMD64 is the architecture. Yes, the VM was created as 64 bit.
VirtualBox: 4.1.6...
Has anyone been able to install FreeBSD RC3 as a guest OS running on top Windows 7 as the host using VirtualBox? If so, exactly how did you install FreeBSD 9rc3?
When I load the FreeBSD 9rc3 ISO into VirtualBOX, it boots up to the prompting asking me to install FreeBSD (in the console). As...
