Radeon KMS error: No Screens found

You can see in the Xorg log file that the radeonkms kernel module isn't loading. Does dmesg show anything? What happens if you try to manually load the radeonkms module? Adam

xorg.conf: How to ignore onboard card?

What does the Xorg log file look like on Llinux? This way we can compare a working setup with the non-working setup. Adam

    Linux distribution recommendation

FYI, the Radeon HD4850 is definitely supported on FreeBSD, and has been for quite a while. Adam

Advice on 64 bit FreeBSD/X.Org/XFCE/Compiz installation

I'd be very surprised if the intel driver doesn't support dual monitors on FreeBSD. Even the radeon driver supports that. It doesn't really require any special level of support from KMS (or even UMS). Adam

    ATI HDMI audio

HDMI audio only worked on Radeon HD cards with UMS with the radeonhd X.Org driver, which is no longer supported or developed. I have no idea if that X.Org driver even works any more.

    ATI HDMI audio

HDMI audio will not work on Radeon GPUs on FreeBSD until Radeon KMS is ported over. You could try the beta KMS-enabled Radeon driver( https://wiki.freebsd.org/AMD_GPU ) but only a HD5000 series GPU has been tested for HDMI audio, and it failed. Adam

    GLX stops working with xf86-video-ati

It's not so much that Mesa dropped support for that GPU, but that it moved support for the GPU into the new gallium infrastructure which is not yet available on FreeBSD.

Question about AMD Radeon HD 6550M

As I said, true hybrid GPUs are not even supported by the open-source drivers in Linux. In a true hybrid setup, the video output is wired to the integrated GPU. The driver you linked to is the proprietary one, not the open-source one. The proprietary driver is not available on FreeBSD. Adam

Question about AMD Radeon HD 6550M

Even more, the M at the end of the model name suggests a mobile GPU in a laptop which is likely a hybrid setup. If that's the case, it's not even supported by the open source drivers in Linux, and having a KMS enabled driver in FreeBSD does not mean it will necessarily work. If it is a laptop...

    Problems running Linux software

I have no instructions to give. I stopped trying to do this when newer DRI drivers stopped working on Fedora 10 by default, which was quite a while ago. Adam

    Problems running Linux software

You need a newer version of the linux DRI drivers. Unfortunately, no one has updated the ones in the ports tree in a long time, and the default version is from Fedora 10, which was released 2008-11-25. The only real option would be to update the drivers yourself. Sadly, this isn't as easy as...

Cannot write memstick image to USB

You haven't given us nearly enough to work with... We'd need to know what "strange files" you are talking about and what happened when you tried to boot from the USB disk. Adam

after installing ati video driver, startx causes system reboot

I'm not completely sure that's the case... He referred to the card as an older ATI Radeon 7000 series card, not an AMD Radeon HD7000 series card. If it's really one of the much older non-HD 7000 cards, then KMS is certainly not needed. In fact, I don't think KMS will get him anything...

    CA0106 Soundblaster: no sound.

To use OSSv4, you need to build a kernel that doesn't include any of native FreeBSD sound drivers.

    Xorg crash

Hardware does go bad over time, particularly years. Try a different power supply, or if you insist it's a bug, report it to nvidia. Adam

    Xorg crash

The error seems pretty clear: If you've verified that the cables are attached, perhaps the power supply is no longer supplying enough power. Adam

Xorg 7.7, ATI 4200 (DRI r600) and AIGLX

Comment out WITH_NEW_XORG from /etc/make.conf and then rebuild the graphics/libGL and graphics/dri ports. That should get you the classic r600 driver. Adam

X.org ATI 6550 Card and Vesa Driver

That's a laptop video card... Is this a laptop with hybrid graphics? If so, I would not expect the radeon GPU to be usable.
