    Question regarding devel/libexecinfo

I would recommend you to install devel/libexecinfo since it's required by many Linux programs and thus you'll avoid weird errors.

    Weird

Probably, someone has reported FreeBSD website as a malware page or a phishing site when you were actually visiting the page (that's weird). I think that Firefox uses data from Google SafeBrowsing to catch information about most websites.

    FreeBSD on ThinkPad W530

Nice laptop, do the volume keys work out of the box on FreeBSD? IBM and Lenovo had and probably still have very good laptop and desktop keyboards. How does it feel while typing on this laptop's keyboard? Are they heavy (my preference while programming)?

    Grub 2 log file?

AFAIK, there are no specific GRUB2 logs. You can search grub messages inside common system log files that are created by syslogd and which are located in /var/log.

Apple's OS X Launchd is being ported to FreeBSD

As Phoronix news says, Apple's launchd is being ported to FreeBSD. The project's name is openlaunchd and its main goal is to provide better boot-up times and jobs management. You can find openlaunchd project on Github and its homepage at FreeBSD wiki. This sounds like systemd for the BSD world...

Opera is dropping FreeBSD, it's (almost) official.

I also replaced my browser of choice (opera) by firefox because the newer version of opera (12.16 if I'm not wrong) is undoubtedly awful. They removed all the useful settings just to be like chrome (do not ask me why they did this since they were the most costumizable browser and that was the...

You must compile the kernel without audio support @mahashakti89, then you can forget about writing by hand all of these lines that are useless in this specific case: sound_load="NO" # Digital sound subsystem snd_ad1816_load="NO" # ad1816 snd_als4000_load="NO" # als4000 snd_atiixp_load="NO"...

    recommended "better" PCI sound card

The best sound card possible at an affordable price is M-Audio 24/96 (if you want one of the best sound cards for recording or listening to music at the best sound quality, then buy a M-Audio Audiophile 192). ;) You can buy one of these cheaply on Ebay. These sound cards are well supported by...

This says everything: osscore: Please remove sound(4) from kernel or unload it. It seems that you didn't remove all FreeBSD audio drivers from the kernel, you still have: FreeBSD Audio Driver (newpcm: 64bit 2009061500/amd64). Paste your /boot/loader.conf here, @mahashakti89.

    Gmail and Skype alternatives

That's not entirely true, I chat with my friends on Skype and we all use desktop, althought I'm sick of Microsoft proprietary code, but that's why I opened this thread here on FreeBSD forums to receive better alternatives.

You'll have to put oss_enable="YES" in rc.conf, then reboot your machine (I didn't said this before, sorry :r). After that, cross your finger and hope that the sound card driver module from OSS works. :P Yes, try to deinstall pulseaudio, please. If you're unable to get sound either, give me...
