    Portupgrade deletes ports on build errors? Why?

    Bumping this up. Am I the only one seeing this? Is this a bug, or is this desired behavior? Please help.

    X.Org 7-4 -> X.Org 7.5 upgrade -- issues and questions

    A workaround was found. I removed a EXAVSync option in xorg.conf. This was added over a year ago to enable KDE desktop effects. Removing it stops the hangs, but disables the desktop effects.

    X.Org 7-4 -> X.Org 7.5 upgrade -- issues and questions

    I just now joined the x11 mailing list, and have posted there. And I am in the process of trying to log a bug. I just thought someone else might have found a solution by now.

    X.Org 7-4 -> X.Org 7.5 upgrade -- issues and questions

    Still no solution. And I've discovered that OpenOffice also hangs my X session. Seriously folks, this is unacceptable. I've been waiting for a solution for one month now. I want the hangs to stop.

    KMyMoney hanging X

    Anyone? Anyone? Do I assume that FreeBSD is not permanently broken?

    KMyMoney hanging X

    After upgrading to the new X.org, I discover that KMyMoney will "hang" X11 anytime another window overlaps it. The other window can be from another app, or one of kmymoney's own dialogs. It happens in the KDE4 desktop, as well as in Blackbox. The "hang" behavior is that the mouse moves extremely...

    KDE 4.4 is sweet! Only one problem...

    This looks as if it is something to do with compositing. Try turning desktop effects on (or off). It could be the driver.

    I need to use kmymoney, but it hangs the system now after the upgrade.

    I'll give portdowngrade a try. Thanks.

    What's the best/easiest way to downgrade to Xorg 7.4? Thanks in advance.

    X.Org 7-4 -> X.Org 7.5 upgrade -- issues and questions

    FBSD-8.0, Radeon X1650, radeon driver. Updated Xorg yesterday, everything seems to work, except KMyMoney. This is my only KDE3 program. When opening a save dialog, or otherwise switching top level windows, the mouse will suddenly start moving very jerky, and everything else is unresponsive...

    Portupgrade deletes ports on build errors? Why?

    The annoying png update has meant I have had to upgrade dozens of ports in the past few days. In the course of this I am starting to see a disturbing pattern. Whenever there is a build failure, I end up with the old software missing. Why is portupgrade deinstalling my software on a build error...

    about code style

    I use the former almost exclusively, unless the client requires something else. I never thought of it as being Unixy.

    So... What's Happened Since FreeBSD 4.0?

    I essentially started with FreeBSD 4.0. What's changed? A heck of a lot! I use FreeBSD as my primary desktop, and have never run a server. From my perspective, FreeBSD is significantly better on the desktop. I'm running KDE 4.3.5, and I get full compositing support, all the eyecandy, etc...

    USE/WANT/HAVE_GNOME question

    Most of the stuff with "gnome" in the name or description are not really a part of GNOME. It gets kind of confusing, but as a rule of thumb I wouldn't consider anything that doesn't require libgnome or libgnomeui to be a part of GNOME.

    Where to put private lib files?

    What do you mean "localize". If you want it available for just one user, then use LD_LIBRARY_PATH. It will only "pollute" the current terminal session. Or you want write a two line script to run your executable: export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=~/lib/libfunky.so ~/bin/funkyapp

    Microsoft did it again

    I agree with oliverh. The only quibble I have with Microsoft is that it's not making it clear to the user that the software is "calling home". But I don't see how this is any more an invasion of privacy than was the initial installation and registration of the software. Life's too short to...

    Install 8.0

    BTX is not FreeBSD, it runs before FreeBSD even starts. All it has to work with is your BIOS. Hence all the posts suggesting updating your BIOS. But it might possibly be the CD drive, so you might want to consider replacing that. p.s. 7.3 is due any day now, and will probably be more stable...

    KDE 4 widgets for Fluxbox?

    You need the KDE desktop for KDE widgets/plasmoids to work. The easiest way is to just use regular KDE, but configure it to use Fluxbox instead of KWin. I can't remember the incantations to do this, but poke around forums.kde.org for an answer.
