    FreeBSD Kommunity Edition

As a semi-pro user... well okay, more like teeball-little league... I don't see this as a productive project. I HAVE come across a few Linux users that indicated they wanted to try FreeBSD, but if they've used Linux already they're a large step ahead of when I started. A simple automagic...

    Bridging help

Please, be nitpicky. That's part of the learning process. I've been working on this for about 3 days now. I started off using a Raspberry Pi using Raspbian, but it was a headache going back and forth between headless with the network to no-net but with a monitor was a pain (ssh was slow with...

    Bridging help

Corrected the file by amending "up" to the corresponding interface's string. tcpdump now shows no traffic on wlan1 other than the downstream DHCP request (which does not get forwarded to the upstream side).

    Bridging help

I'm trying to extend the wireless signal by setting up a bridge in accordance with the handbook section on bridging. Inet<-->if_wlan0-bridged-if_wlan1<-->clients cat /etc/rc.conf <snip> wlans_iwn0="wlan0" wlans_urtwn0="wlan1" create_args_wlan1="wlanmode hostap" cloned_interfaces="bridge0"...

Solved Building new desktop PC with perfect FreeBSD compatibility

As far as gaming goes, if you're running dosbox or wine, stick with Linux. I expected for FreeBSD to run Windoze programs faster, but this was not the case. Dunno why; OpenOffice and Firefox run faster on my BSD box. Don't forget to keep your network card chipset under consideration. FreeBSD...

Solved kdm displays welcome to home and I cant log in.

Boot single user mode. That will start you off at a console. # mount -a It's booting into XDM if I'm not mistaken (been over 10 years since I've seen that). I believe # xorgcfg should re-write your xorg.conf. Be sure kdm_enable=YES is in your /etc/rc.conf. Not a pro, but if I can save one the...

    Net Neutrality

Concerning the US government's overturning net neutrality, wouldn't it be possible for content providers, say Netflix, to simply provide an alternative method to allow users to get around any service throttling? The primary one that comes to my mind is simply use a SSH tunnel. Would that work...

    PC-BSD jail help

I'm posting this in off topic because this may be a PC-BSD only issue. Any help is appreciated. http://forums.pcbsd.org/showthread.php? ... post112391

    webmin in FreeBSD 9.2

I got the same error as above. Recompiling lang/perl5.16 didn't work. Switching to lang/perl5.18 did the trick.

    "Compatible" web browsers

I just got off a rant, and need to vent. Since the guys on here make the US Government's IT team look like a group of monkeys, I thought I'd leave this here just to see where it goes. If it goes nowhere, that's fine. Like I said, I just need to vent. <rant> Excerpt of a rant to the Army...

    Driver for my wireless

That's a Broadcom chipset. I may not be the slickest bananna peel on the ground, but from my experience, BSD is the reason I now avoid Broadcom products because I only got a very old chipset model to work with it. Further, there doesn't appear to be a driver if that's the only kernel message you...

    Solved [Solved] Secure environment

Re: Secure environment The owner doesn't learn, despite having numerous compromised credit cards. I try suggesting to change the OS since nobody but me really upkeeps the system... they're hard headed. Sounds like the most security/convenient balanced solution is to use a stick. Thanks, y'all.

    Solved [Solved] Secure environment

I have a Windows XP system that I frequent that the owner allows me to install programs on, but not modify the OS. The users of this system are not security conscious, and sometimes I must use this system to log onto my bank or government/military sites. Attempting to please my paranoia, I would...

    Do wi-fi dongles work properly?

I got a Netgear WG111v3 and a Belkin. The Belkin looks like this onehttp://compare.ebay.com/like/220975108052?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar but it's the one that has velcro on it as seen here http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?t=38679 so I'm not sure if it's the same model...

    Favorite FreeBSD Feature?

I'd have to agree. Maybe I'm just used to FreeBSD, but I hate troubleshooting problems on a Linux system because it's hard to find good help and documentation (besides being chaotic, IMHO).
